Automotive Industry Day:

Confirmed Date March 10, 2009


8:30am - With Paul Hawkes, MITO representative, meet participants at designated spot for a briefing. (Outcomes, expectations, health and safety and behaviour)

9:00am - NMIT, Peter Kristofski, Certificate in Automotive Engineering and Certificate to Entry in Automotive Engineering. - Hopefully a little "hands on" opportunity. I would hope NMIT would explain what is available to the students. Costs and processes to be involved at NMIT. A tour of the campus with Anne Barrer and an opportunity to meet some of the current students.

10:15 - morning tea.

10:30 – 11:10– Repco – Tony O’Donnell - Tour and talk on supplying materials to the Automotive industry, Salary Expectations, Pathways, Customer Service.

11:15 – 11:45 - Maher & Mosley. Mike Maher will take us through the panel beating shop with explanations on skills, trainings, pathways, salary Expectations, Customer Service and career advice. What goes on.

11:55 – 12:40 - Transmar Services, Peter Kenyon – Expectations on a mechanic at Transmar, Pre requisites Transmar looks for. Service component, Specialized training. Technology, Market Niche
12:40 – 1:10 - Lunch

1:10 - 2:00 – Tractor Repairs & Spares, Adrian Orchard - will take them through the expectations of a Mechanic in that shop. Different areas of expertise within the shop. Transferable skills, salary expectations, Customer Service. Technology Chat with them about the industry.

2:10 – 3:00 Mayfield Motors, Sturrock Saunders. - Career Pathways, Transferable skills, Industry Training, Specialized training, salary expectations, customer Service.


3:00 - MITO - The end of the day will be a debriefing on where to go from here. Explanation of what is available to the school leavers in order get into the Motor industry.

3:15 - Return to Trade Link Marlborough.
